Project Goal
Design an accessible, energy-efficient coach house that balances comfort, sustainability, affordability, and practical living for aging occupants.
My Contribution
- Wrote and researched the Technology and Technology Calculations sections, focusing on envelope performance, mechanical systems, renewable energy, and sustainability upgrades
- Completed appendix calculations for floor area, surface area, window-to-wall ratio, skylight-to-floor ratio, PV sizing, and annual energy generation
- Researched high-performance materials and systems, including triple glazing, ZIP-R sheathing, dense-pack cellulose, ERV ventilation, and a mini-split heat pump
- Connected technical decisions to accessibility, affordability, energy efficiency, and net-zero design goals
- Created the project Gantt chart to coordinate design development, modelling, documentation, and final report milestones
Key Features
Passive Solar Design
South-facing glazing and overhangs support daylight, winter solar gain, and summer shading.
High-Performance Envelope
Improved insulation, triple glazing, and airtight detailing help reduce heat loss.
Energy-Efficient Design
A mini-split heat pump, energy recovery ventilation, and rooftop solar PV help reduce annual energy demand.
