Research Overview
The experimental platform includes 16 test tables arranged across four orientations and four roof slopes to study how geometry and orientation affect green roof stormwater retention and runoff.

Project Goal
Support graduate research investigating how green roof slope and orientation affect stormwater retention and runoff by contributing to test-table construction, sensor integration and calibration.
My Contribution
- Installed waterproofing membranes on existing wooden test structures using roofing knives and heat-welding equipment
- Assembled green roof layers by cutting materials to size with an angle grinder and scissors. Layers included root barriers, drainage mats, retention fleeces and sedum mats
- Developed an Arduino and Python-based sensor logging system for laboratory use alongside the lysimeter to support calibration of the retention fleece used in the green roof assemblies
Key Features
Green Roof Construction
The test roofs were assembled using waterproofing membranes, drainage layers, retention fleece, root barriers, and sedum mats across multiple slopes and orientations.
Sensor Calibration
Moisture sensors were tested with retention fleece under controlled conditions to develop calibration relationships between sensor response and retained water.
Data Acquisition
Arduino and Python code was designed to read, process, and log incoming 5TE sensor data for laboratory testing and monitoring.
